162 FXUS65 KVEF 042107 AFDVEF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Las Vegas NV 108 PM PST Wed Mar 4 2026 .KEY MESSAGES... * Strong gusty winds spread across the region tonight through Saturday, with a relative lull on Friday. Widespread Wind Advisories in effect. * Calmer conditions and a warming trend beginning on Sunday. && .DISCUSSION...Today through Tuesday. A cold front will begin pushing through the area later this afternoon in Bishop and Dyer and continue to the southeast overnight reaching the Las Vegas Valley after midnight. The main upper low will be well to the east and will keep precipitation further east as well (although a brief showers cannot be ruled out in far eastern Lincoln County on Thursday). The main issue will be the wind and no changes were made to the wind advisories that are in effect. The trend has been further east which may limit the winds to some extent on the western periphery (Inyo and western San Bernardino Counties). In general, widespread wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph in the lower elevations and 40 to 50 mph gusts in the higher elevations with occasional higher gusts. As the first wave pushes to the east on Friday winds will back off marginally but the second wave will dive south through southern Nevada Friday evening and park off the Baja coast on Saturday. This will aid in producing a reinforcing shot of wind and for some locations, like down the Colorado River Valley a likely stronger shot of winds on Saturday. We`ll be monitoring this evolution and the potential need for additional wind products with the second system. Otherwise, temperatures will be about 10 degrees or so cooler on Thursday and Friday and will be slightly below their seasonal normals. The latest ensemble guidance and ensemble tools indicate the closed low over the Baja will be slow to move east but it`s impacts will be diminished in our area by Sunday. Some form of ridging will build into the during the week providing calmer conditions and a warming trend with temperatures average 6 to 10 degrees above normal from Sunday through Wednesday. && .AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 18Z Forecast Package...Winds will remain light and variable through mid-afternoon.
